Boat & marine trailers
Submerged at the ramp, then parked in the sun — the harshest duty cycle any trailer light sees.
What this class needs
- Guide post lights mark the ramp when backing in low light, which is the real problem on a launch ramp.
- IP67 sealing and potted connections are not optional when the whole rear end goes underwater.
- Grommets and PL-3 plugs should be stocked as spares — corrosion starts at the connection.
Where FMVSS 108 lands here
Requirements change with width and length. Under 80 inches, a combination kit typically covers stop, turn, tail, marker and plate. At 80 inches and wider, the three-lamp identification bar and intermediate side markers come into play — and that is usually where a build runs into trouble.
